last chance for group fitness points

Whats Up people!!??!!

As we near the end of our first calendar month, the oppurtunity to get max points for your team are getting slim!!

Wednesday 30th June is last day of the month so last chance saloon for group fitness points.

Remember its 8 DIFFERENT classes for 10 points, and for 5 points you only need 4 different classes, so you can even get that done in the next 2 days if your committed!!

Watch this space for “re:flex” pump classes coming soon on Mondays and Wednesday evenings @ 6.30pm…

I have 5 spots for the Demo class tomorrow night at 6.30 so first in first served send me an email on justinw@genesisfitness.co.nz to get a limited spot for the test class tomorrow night

We had a hilarious night at latino last week and I think we all had fun and we all had a crack up watching each other do the ‘swivel’.

Try and remember the moves and we will get it together for a team dance off later in the competition

We are now 5 weeks in folks,  and I am more than pleased as to how its going and you can all give yourselves a pat on the back. Its tough going, but the team trainings and commraderie is something to be admired,  and remember you point whores out there… its all about fun so

No bonus poitnts this week but high 5’s to those doing tough guy tough girl this weekend… represent Genesis with plenty of gusto and mudslinging competitiveness!!!

Keep up the blogging and remember if your PT isnt doing the business… give them a flogging

For Those Of Us Who Aren't Sunning Ourselves In Rarotonga!!!

Hey everyone,

Awesome job on the Viva Latino class on Thursday evening- we managed to get eight of us there, giving us a whopping EIGHTY bonus points :-) Great work, and although I’m sure some people won’t be going back, I think we all had a good laugh at least and definitely worked up a sweat! For those of you who felt like you had two left feet (me included), it really does get easier as you get to know a few of the moves and the class isn’t normally that busy, so it’s easier to hear and see what’s going on! Anyway, well done to you all.

Yesterday we had a great little group training session first thing. George, Paul, Jeremy and Gabrielle battled colds, flu and a late night before to huff, puff and grunt through a hard half-hour of intense exercise, and Anna even took a break from her packing for Raro to come and join us! Hats off to you all :-) Watch this space for pics and a video when I work out how to put them up. And don’t forget there’s another team session at 6:30 Wednesday morning- see you ALL there!

Hope you’re enjoying the great weather today, and are itching to get stuck into another week’s training. Keep up the good work!

Brendan

Lock in Latino Thursday!!!

Hey Guys,

This week we have some massive bonus points up for grabs!

Your task,  should you be able to get a baby sitter or get the hubby to cook will be making it to the Latino Dance Class!

The class is this Thursday 24th June at 7pm!

Yes, I know some of you may get a little embarrassed at the thought of have to dance around in front of other apparent coordinated people, but there are 10 POINTS up for grab for each team member that attends! So if you can get your whole team there, that’s 100 POINTS right there!

Here are the rules:

-          Your name must be down on the Latino Class sign in sheet

-          You must attend the whole session. NO LEAVING EARLY!

-          You cannot be anymore than 10mins late.

-          Please participate with enthusiasm. You cannot just stand there lifting your arms up and down! Shake what your mama gave you!!!

-          10 points per team member that participates

No one is too uncoordinated to do this class. It’s for all fitness and skill levels.

It’s a great work out but it’s also loads of fun!

Down the line there will be a Latino Dance Challenge between teams so this is a good chance to practice your dance moves. You made need them later!

Latino Dance Class Here I Come!

Hi Everyone,

Good Job on coming in second again, and well done on the blogging!!

Anna put me down for Latino Class on Thursday night.  I can’t make it to either of the group classes as I am away this weekend and 6.30-7am start is just not me I’m afraid, so I’d love to see you all on Thursday night and get to know my group a little better.

Went to Johnny’s Active Fit class this morning…. MEAN!!  I had to admit it was awesome fun once it was all over and I might do it again lol.  So Latino will take me to 4 different classes in the month so that’s good.

Look forward to seeing you all on Thursday night.

Cheers

Blogtastic!!!

Hey gang,

Great job on the blogging front yesterday J We didn’t quite manage ten out of ten, but I don’t think anyone else did either! Regardless,  we had some great posts, and hopefully those of you who’ve not posted before know how to now and will keep on.

Keep an eye out for some more bonus points coming up next week too. With Brooke back on board we can really rack up the points now- ltets see if we can get into first place and prove that we really are the A-team!

We had a fantastic MC2 class this morning, with Kim, Jeremy, Gabrielle and George all really going for it and cranking up the intensity. The grunting and groaning and huffing and puffing really let me know they were giving it their all, so well done guys and girls J

Several of you have replied to Anna about what times suit you for team training, so we’ll be planning a couple of sessions- watch this space!

Keep up the good work team- remember there’s still a couple of days to get in another workout or two, or maybe try my running group on Monday. A few people have said they might come along- George is one of my regulars and is going great. We run at the pace of the slowest having a chat along the way (I usually do most of the talking!), and faster runners can sprint ahead then jog back, so don’t be afraid to come along and give it a try- 6pm Monday at the front of the gym.

GO TEAM ARES,

blog

HI BROOKE

Hey Team!

I thought I’d get in on all this blogging action! I am ashamed to say that this is my first blog….but to be fair I’m not really on the computer a hell of a lot.

You guys are all doing great with your gym visit and group fitness attendance! And it’s great to see that so many of you have blogged J

I’m at the gym now and George has just walked in to do some weights which is fantastic! Although he’s doing them in his mechanic work overalls! That’s a first at Genesis!

Anyway I am going to have a game of tennis now!

I will see you all later J Keep up the good work!

No Time

Hi guys,

This is my very quick blog to say that today is a mad crazy day and this will be the only time I have to blog.  On my way to town then out to Puke for boxing if I make it in time.

I hope everyone is having a great day and managed to blog today so we can get our bonus points.

Week 3

Where have the 3 weeks gone ?!!

Boot camp this morning . . was chilly but not as cold as Wednesday !!!

Only one more week to go at boot camp, then will have time to get into the morning classes .

After 4 boot camps in a row it’s time for a break

Once boot camp is finished I will endeavour to catch up with the rest of Team Ares as the launch seems like ages ago !

Working hard  at drinking the required water . . not easy on cold days but it will make a difference to training  if

Your  hydration is right.

Hope you all enjoy the weekend,

Happy Training

Steve

bonus

Went to the gym today, then realised I didn’t need to because sitting on my bum blogging is worth three times as much as doing exercise. If I’d realised earlier, I would’ve gone with the sitting on my bum option. Can we do this bonus round again next week now that I’ve got it sorted?

Good Work Team!!

Hi All,

Well I am now back from a trip across the ditch and super motivated.  Very exciting to see the awesome results from the team, go you guys.  I am feeling a little slack as I haven’t contributed points to date but rest assured I will get my a into g it was great to be back to the gym this morning oh how I have missed it.

Bye for now.

Brooke

Making progress!

Hi everyone, sounds as if you are doing great!  I am feeling much more energetic with healthy food and plenty of exercise. Weight loss off to a slow start but making progress at last.  See some of you on Saturday with Brendan MC2!

Gabrielle

Team ARES . lets kick some arse!

Hi there Team,

Great that we are second in the competition so far.  Keep up the good work everyone!

I have been very motivated in attending group fitness classes.  I find it easier if you write a schedule so you can track your progress.  So far I have completed six different group fitness classes, therefore on track for maximum points, and also been attending the gym regularly.

My favourite classes are Boxing and Pilates, also doing Bootcamps in the mornings with Juddy, Jimmy and Rick, is the only way to lose extra weight!

Maybe we should have a team catch-up soon, so we can discuss our progress etc?

Happy training!

Kim J

Mmmm.. Delicious Lasagna!

Spandex Lasagna Man!
Hey everyone,

Hope you're staying on track without going insane!
I've managed to make all my gym commitments so far with the exception of Wednesday morning (SO COLD!), and have been mixing things up a bit to keep things interesting. I'll be doing MC2 tomorrow morning, and maybe commit to trying out some other classes before the end of the month.

I've found the eating is a lot easier than anticipated. I'm still having too much coffee, and dinners could be better, but I'm not craving things the way I expected to, and I feel much more satisfied munching on healthy food instead of chocolate, icecream, cheesecake, chips, dip...

We're in for a shitty weekend weather-wise, but resist the temptation to get drunk and pig out!

Loving the team effort so far!

Cheers
Jeremy

Week 3 almost over

Hope everyone is having a good workout and nutrition week. I am still
trying to fight off the remainder of my cold but it seems to be
getting better.
Have had really great workouts this week, I am loving the weights
program Brendan did for me. Already seeing some progress with the
weight increase. Except for my shoulders....anyone want to share some
tips on shoulder strength because mine seem to be really lacking??

Going to head to Pilates tomorrow morning and possibly spin on Sunday?

What time are MC2 classes running in the evenings?

Cheers all,
Connor

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Hi from Kylee

Hey team Ares!  Well this is my first blog, and I must say Congratulations on coming in second.  We are obviously all putting in the time it takes at the gym, well done everyone!

I’m guilty of only going to the gym once this week so far, but have been really busy with extracurricular activities outside of the gym like squash and tennis so my body feels like it hasn’t had a break in a looong time.  It’s sore everyday and I have to push through the pain of sore legs, bum, back etc to keep going.  I know that doesn’t help us, or our points, but rest assured I am committed to  going to the gym four times a week, so I’ll be there today, tomorrow and once over the weekend.

I’m finding it really hard to get along to the group fitness classes, mainly due to the times they are on.  I don’t find it easy going to 6pm classes as I normally work out at 7.30 at night, or during the day when work allows.  I have been to Yoga (far out what a workout!!) and to the boxing class this month.. really enjoyed both of them and will try to get to more.  Tried to get along to MC2 this morning but all classes were fully booked....  Note to self to book in advance and book the time out of my schedule!!

I’m going out to Pukekohe tomorrow to join a friend in his personal training session of boxing.  Apparently I am going to be punished by the “Heidinator”, my mates trainer.  Don’t worry I will come to Genesis tomorrow as well!  I am trying to keep my friends and family motivated to losing weight and keeping fit as well as looking after my own health and wellbeing.  My mate Grant is a huge inspiration to me and has lost a MASSIVE 71.2kg so far.  He is looking amazing and I can’t wait to see how he goes tomorrow... I am quite sure I will be the one crawling out of there.

Well that’s about it from me.  Make sure you all blog tomorrow as we get bonus points for blogging tomorrow 18th June.  I’ll let you all know how I went at boxing.

Keep up the great work team!

Kylee J

Bonus points up for grabs!!!

Morning to you Evo Die hards out there!!!

Just a small wee update about the 12 week challenge, getting some rules all sorted and general feedback

The first few weeks seemed to be the seeding of some very strong teams at the moment. Every team has there own little style, a celebrity appearance of the god zeus, some very intense workouts from Septu, and group Pilates for Minerva. Points have been dished out fairly and I have done it like this

· All attendance recorded by all members is recorded in our membership software and is transported to a spreadsheet and checked by myself

· All attendance times are observed to counteract the ‘double beepers’ trying to score an extra visit

· If you come in and go to a class it is recorded as a gym session AND a group fitness session

· You must do 8 DIFFERENT classes in a calendar month (1st June – 31st June for first month allotments) to get maximum points.

· I will tally group fitness at the end of the month as it gives everyone till the doors close on the 31st to gain points

Any more questions you can always flick a quick email to justinw@genesisfitness.co.nz and ill blurt more details

BONUS POINTS

If you blog on your team site Friday 18th between the hours of 7am and 9 pm you will get 3 bonus points per team member blog.

It can be about anything you decide as long as you post it on your team and put your name at the bottom ( remember no footers)

If everyone in your team has put in a blog and I check it on the team manifest, I will issue a bonus 10 points for getting EVERY team member to blog.

It’s a team event so rally your troops and don’t take no for an answer. How hard is an email. And before you think of posting muliple blogs for all your team I can check email addresses so try not be too sneaky, the watchful eye is ever present.

Let your fingers do the talking

JUDDY

p.s heads up for bonus points next week will involve the Latino class so get a late pass from the partner and get ready to get your crump on!!!

Time flies...

…when you’re having fun!

Wow, where did week two go to? And we’re half way through week three already!

Great work gang- we’re still in second place so far, and that doesn’t include the group fitness points, so we’re looking really good :-)

Make sure you stay consistent; now is the time things might slip a little after such a good start, so do all you can to keep on track. Maybe try keeping your own log of what you’ve done- it can be really motivating to see those entries stack up.

I’m afraid I didn’t make any more group fitness classes last week with PT clients scheduled in, and won’t do this week either :-( But I’m hoping to get along to a couple next week so feel free to join me if you fancy giving something new a try.

You should have all got an email from Anna to try to co-ordinate some free team training; it’ll be a short, sharp half hour of grunting, sweating and giving it your all, so let Anna know when you’re available and we’ll fix a couple of sessions up.

Also Kim and Gabrielle are coming in at 9 on Saturday morning for a private MC2 session. Space for two more at $15 per person, so if you can’t make the weekday sessions it’s a good chance to give MC2 a go. I’ll run a few more free session along the way too, so keep an eye out for those :-)

As always, let me know if you need any help.

Go the A-Team!

Week 3 Start

Hi Team,

We have all been pretty silent for the last little while. Must be all
the time we are spending at the gym!!

I was just wondering if we were going to do any group training classes
like the other teams are doing, if so when and what time?
I tried out Pilates last weekend and loved it, super tough abs workout
though. I also got a great new routine from Brendan.

Hope everyone is training hard,
Connor

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

congratulations on the first week!!

I must say people well done and a big round of fist pumps and high fives for all Teams!!

I have been well and truly encouraged by the vigour in which all teams and taking on all matters of competitveness and eager gym attendance

The scores have been posted and it looks like Team Septu will take out first weeks honours with a total of 27 points as the first weeks totals.

The other teams points come in like this

·         Team Athena 24

·         Team Minerva 24

·         Team Zeus 26

·         Team Maru 25

·         Team Ares 26

If it seems like low points never fear my loyal subjects (according to Zeus, in the baddest lightening storm ever indoors!!), because we will be having MAJOR special rounds, the kind that make you go all out to achieve, can make a team in last place leap to the front of the pack and alike.

So keep your eyes firmly fixed on this blog and your training efforts.

P.S all group fitness points will be calculated at the end of each month to avoid confusion and give people the last ditch effort to accumulate points, it can be done

Till then enjoy yourselves and remember its about you and your team

MC2 class Friday

Hi team Ares!

week 1

I found the Nutrition Seminar really informative last night. Even if I didn’t like everything they were saying, I am willing to give it a go. Have made an appointment for Blood Analysis and Nutrition Consultation on the 15th of June.

Good workouts this week. Have done Intervals almost everyday and am definitely feeling it today. Went for run/walk intervals on the treadmill, first time since I hurt my knee. Did I mention I really hate running? Ahhh well, felt good to conquer it though, much like Ares must have in many battles.

Going to meet with Brendan tomorrow for a new weights regime and then MC2. I am scuba diving on Sunday (yikes!!) and then going to go to the 7am Boxing with Johnny on Monday. Full weekend.

Gotta be in it to win it. We will see how motivated I am NEXT week. But this week has been good.

If any of the team members are interested in some 2 person personal training, I am totally down.

Happy Friday, Connor

Anyone for spin or yoga?

Hi All,

How’s the training going? Make sure you book in for classes in advance, as they’re going to be more popular than ever- I had four people from other teams in MC2 this morning and they all found it really hits the spot! I’ve got one of you booked in for 10am Saturday so far; anyone else going to join us? 3 spots left at 10 and four still to fill at 10:30. Or get yourself booked into the Monday and Wednesday evening classes next week.

Make sure you swipe in with your barcode whenever you come to the gym too, whether it’s for your own workout or a class, and be sure to sign the class registers too- we don’t want to miss out on those points! I’m booked in for spin at 6 tonight if anyone wants to join me. Be quick and give the gym a call on 520 3455 as it’s booking up fast! And Connor’s going to yoga at the same time so feel free to get booked into that, or kickboxing.

Don’t forget the nutrition seminar tonight at 7; an extra 2 bonus points for everyone attends, and most importantly lots of really useful info to help you achieve your goals, so really make an effort to be there if you can.

See you this evening,

Brendan

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Our great start just keeps getting better!

Good going guys- really good to see you using the blog already :-) You're right, temptation is hard to avoid, but it sounds like Connor's got it cracked- half the battle is being prepared. So long as you have an alternative it's much easier to stick with that than have nothing at all, and just like the intervals, it might be more difficult at the time but you'll feel really good afterwards.

That said you don't have to be a complete martyr- I generally use a 90% rule, which means you can treat yourself the remaining 10%, but make sure it is just 10%, and make sure you really savour the treat. It's amazing how good just one square of chocolate tastes if it's really good chocolate and you just close your eyes and let it slowly melt in your mouth :-)

It'll be good to see what Discover Health have to say tomorrow and feel free to ask them for ideas on coping strategies for situations like these.

Good work on the research too Jeremy- you beat me to it. I'm loving the big silly hat theme, but we might have to tone down the public displays of nudity for our acceptance speech at prize-giving! ;-)

Keep up the good work folks!

Brendan

My first contribution

Wikipedia defines Ares as the god of Bloodlust - nice!

Ares is a major deity and a member of the Twelve Olympians, a son of Zeus and Hera, in Greek mythology. Though often referred to as the Olympian god of warfare, he is more accurately the god of bloodlust, or slaughter personified: "Ares is apparently an ancient abstract noun meaning throng of battle, war."  He also presides over the weapons of war, the defence and sacking of cities, rebellion and civil order, banditry, manliness and courage.

It's also implied by the picture that he has a penchant for big silly hats, toboggans, and public displays of nudity..

I'm looking forward to getting some more group classes in this week. Have been doing bootcamp as well as some boxing last night. I'm keen to do something tomorow morning or evening if anyone else wants a buddy (prefer Cardio or HIAIT) - leave a comment or contact Brendon/Anna/Gym for my number.

I've been eating healthy so far this week. I sat down with my workmates and ate chicken salad while they scoffed gourmet pizza today! Now i'm craving all sorts of of junk food. Not quite sure how I'll manage to stay on track over the long weekend, but hopefully tomorrow's seminar will sort that out - right?

Good luck everyone, lets kick some butt.

Jeremy

Some guidelines around the blogging

1 more thing folks

The team blog is a great way to let the team know where you are at with your training, how you are managing your food etc.  It is a forum board to let the world know how you are doing.  Sometimes there can be no greater motivation to avoiding that takeaway hit than knowing you will have to confess to your team on your weekly blog..  Talk with your team members and find out how you want to use it and how you can make it best work for you.

One of the great features of the blog is the ability to post comments against a post.  This means that someone can post an idea, and then everyone can make comments against that post.  To do this, simply click the comments link under a post on the blog site.

We will also use the blogs to post information about the challenge, so check it regularly.

Finally some tips on posting... make sure you remove any auto signatures on your email before posting otherwise these will be posted as well and make the blog look a little scrappy.  Because of the way that we have the posting working, you will not be able to email pictures or videos directly. These will need to be uploaded to youtube or picassa (or other online media hosts) and then we can link them in..  any questions just flick us an email at bloghelp@genesisfitness.co.nz and we will get back to you.

Hope this helps

P.S the seminar is 7pm Thursday 3rd May in the ballroom

Hello and welcome everybody to the Genesis Evolution Challenge!!

Hey Team,

Awesome turnout today- what a way to kick things off! Four people at boxing class as well as Anna and I, and nine of our ten members made it to the training seminar. Way to go!

I hope you all found the seminar interesting and useful. I’ll be sending out a summary tomorrow, so if you have any more questions then drop me a line (brendan@genesisfitness.co.nz)

Keep up the good work people!
